The Real Source of Success
Here's a favorite quote from Michelangelo:
"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."
Keep aiming high!

Something Wonderful Comes from This
Someone shared with me this phrase as a way that she chooses to look at obstacles. "Something wonderful comes from this."

Rather than getting hassled by obstacles, she consciously looks for what good thing could come out of it. Almost invariably, something good does.

It's simply because of this: when you focus on the obstacle, your mind stops cold. It sees nothing beyond the obstacle.

When you hit an obstacle and look for something wonderful to come out of it, you lift your eyes up beyond the obstacle and start to see ways around it that you would never see otherwise.
Next time you face an obstacle, try it yourself. Look at the obstacle, but don't stop there. Look also for what wonderful thing can come out of it. You might be surprised at what all you find.

What Do You Want to Do?
It's all too easy when starting a business to make decisions based on what we COULD do. We see something we COULD do and we say, "Well, I suppose I COULD do that."

If we're used to working as an employee, we do it because we're used to taking directions from an employer. We're used to having someone assign us to do something we don't particularly feel comfortable with.

So when a business opportunity comes along that feels like its on the periphery of our interests, it feels sadly natural for us to jump into it and end up doing something we don't really like all that much, just because we're used to doing things feel we COULD do.

That goes against the whole reason for going into business on your own. You don't want to trade one job you don't really enjoy for another.

Better to assess what we really want so we can develop the skills where we can consistently say, "I WANT to do that." That way we can look for opportunities to do that instead of settling for whatever comes along.

Recognizing that we don't HAVE to accept what someone else tells us they think we should do is one of those big shifts in mindset that we often don't realize we have to make.
