Is It Time You Traded in Your Eyes?
Here's a favorite quote from Marcel Proust:
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
Many times, the difference between success and failure is not so much what you see in front of you, but how you see it.

For example, let's say you face an obstacle in your business, or in your life. Your eyes see no way around it, no way over it, no way through it. Your eyes see only how imposing it.

So you stop. You don't go any further because all you can see is how impassible the obstacle is.

I can't tell you how many times I've done this. A task seemed too big, too daunting, too overwhelming. So I stopped, thinking, "How am I ever going to make this work for me?"

Not surprisingly, those are the tasks that ended unsuccessfully. I went in looking for something that would make what I was doing fail. Invariably, I found exactly what I was looking for.

I've had plenty of tasks, though, where I faced obstacles that I did, indeed, overcome. What did those have in common? I looked for ways to overcome the obstalces instead of looking for how they would stop me. I found ways to succeed.

Often, that's all it takes to overcome obstacles: eyes that look for the ways around them instead of staring motionless at them. How are your eyes lately? Are you finding only obstacles in your path? If so, it might be time to trade your old eyes in for some new ones.
