Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grade Piano Student?
What do fifth grade piano students do that many online business owners don't?
They practice.
They don't sit around looking for new tips on how to play the piano before they sit down at the keyboard.
They don't study every piano-playing strategy before they put their fingers on the keys.
They don't wait... wait... wait... for some time when they feel they have learned intellectually everything they feel they need to know before they start to play.
They practice.
We all want to go into business feeling we know everything we need to know. We all want to go into business feeling that we already have the answer in hand to any obstacle that we could ever face. We all want to go into business feeling ensured of effortless success.
But business doesn't work that way. Learning piano doesn't work that way. Life doesn't work that way.
Some of the most important things we learn, we learn by doing.
I know a ton about SEO from reading about it. But the most important things I've learned about SEO have come from trying different strategies and watching how they affect clients' rankings.
So why do we think we can succeed at business by just buying enough ebooks, researching the Internet, and studying up on every new strategy we come across?
It's because we're afraid of failing. We're afraid that our attempts will hit a sour note. So we hide behind ebooks and home study courses, sucking in as much info as we can, but never putting it into practice. We wind up never doing anything that we can REALLY learn from.
There's no better knowledge than the knowledge that comes from trying something, seeing how it works, and keeping on working at it until you do it really well. Ask any successful business owner. Or even ask a fifth-grade piano student.
