Way too many new business owners give up on their businesses too soon.
There's this idea that business success is like turning on a faucet. You turn the handle and—whoosh!—water spurts out instantly.
Actually, it's more like getting water from a water hose—a loooong water hose.
With a water hose, you turn on the water and what do you get? Nothing. That water is all back there by the faucet, working its way through the hose.
Yet you stare at the end of that hose, knowing the water is on but seeing absolutely no results.
What do you think? "Where's the water? Isn't there supposed to be water? I'm doing what I'm supposed to. Why doesn't it come?"
Is the problem that there isn't any water? No. It's there. But it has a looong way to work its way through that hose until it gets to where you see it.
It's the same way with your business.
It WILL take a while to build enough momentum for your business to let you see any sign of success.
If you get impatient and turn off the faucet when you don't see anything right away, nothing will ever come out.
Same thing if you do the other common mistake that business owners make. What kind of results will you get if you turn on the faucet, see nothing come out and decide you need to use a different faucet?
You turn the first faucet off and then you attach it to another. You turn that one on and what do you see? Again, nothing.
You keep moving from faucet to faucet, wasting time switching your hose from one to another. Maybe you eventually build up enough water in the hose that some of it makes it to the end. Or maybe you just build up disappointment and cynicism that leads you to give up before you reach your goal.
The fact is, though, that when you demand immediate results you get none at all.
How, then, do you get results?
Set up your plan. Realize that success will take effort and time. Work it through. Don't expect instant results. And don't expect results to come if you constantly switch from one thing to another.
Combine planning with persistence. And then don't be surprised when success does come as a sudden whoosh!
Jeff
P.S. How to work smart in business is something that doesn't come naturally. It needs to be learned. If you want to find out more about how to work smarter in your business, check out The Lazy Man's Guide to Online Business.
I'm not thrilled with the title. Laziness is not the hallmark of business success. But it's a catchy title that accurately captures the truth that just about all of us are capable of getting more done in less time than we actually do. And Lazy Man's Guide helps you discover how to do that in a no-nonsense, no-holds-barred way.

Each Friday I share with you the hottest online marketing deals I've come across in the past week.
May Day discount on SiteBuildIt!
It's hard to describe what SiteBuildIt! is, because it does so much. It's more than a site-building tool.
Most site-building tools help you with the nuts and bolts of building a site. But then they leave you to figure out on your own how to make it profitable. Good luck with that, especially if you're just getting started in business online!
SiteBuildIt! takes you by the hand and walks you not just through building your site, but through every step of the way of making it profitable, too.
How much do I believe in SiteBuildIt!? Last time they had one of these discount sales, I bought a pair of sites for my two youngest children (one in high school and one in college). I gave them each a site. Each of them is now building a site on their own special interests with the goal of using it to pay for their own college education.
I wouldn't stick my kids—or their ability to pay for college—with a business-building solution I didn't fully believe in.
But remember, time is limited on this one. Click here to find out more
Or click here to go right to SiteBuildIt! and then click on the banner to find out more about the discount.

If you've been on the fence about whether to pick up a free month's membership in Secrets To Their Success, it's time to jump off—one way or the other.
Your chance to start your free month's membership ends Friday.
What will you get in your free month?
You'll receive two case studies in which a team of experts grills two successful website owners to find out every step they took, every strategy they employed, and every mistake they made and corrected to achieve the success they now have.
You'll also see an extensive website review in which experts who have made millions of dollars online dig into every aspect of some STTS member's business to find ways to make it more profitable. They put $5,000 worth of work into making the site more profitable. Frankly, the review is the part of Secrets To Their Success that I always enjoy the most. It's a real learning experience on what to do and what not to do.
Oh, and consider this: if you continue your membership beyond the one month free trial, you'll be eligible to have those same experts look into every cranny of your business to help you wring 2x, 3x, 10x more profits out of it.
So don't sit on the fence too long about Secrets To Their Success. It won't cost you a thing to enjoy one free month of learning from the best.
Jeff
P.S. I mentioned about the $5,000 website upgrade that one member is chosen for each month earlier. I just heard about the results that one of the recent winners of this review and upgrade achieved with the improvements on his site:
- Search engine rankings for his top keywords skyrocketed into the top 10 and often are #1 or #2
- Traffic from Google increased by 200%
- Revenues increased by 25%
That's definitely worth getting in on!

In the last week, I've directed your attention to the PortalFeeder blog a couple of times.
My apologies. I've forgotten something.
Most people don't know what this PortalFeeder thing is.
So I'd better fill you in.
PortalFeeder is a private site that provides you with site-building software, extensive training, tools to boost your search engine rankings as well as generate traffic through other people's sites.
It has one of the best online communities to help you boost your business. It has tools you can't find anywhere else.
In other words, it's a comprehensive business-building solution.
The site-building software that's part of it is not just site-building software. It's site-building software that actually stops you from making rookie mistakes that would cost most new business owners months of delay in getting profits.
And that makes it possible to make profits a lot sooner, like PortalFeeder owners Mike Fletcher and Jaime Mintun did.
Who are Mike and Jaime?
These are regular folks (just like you) who now each make a consistent $3,000-$10,000
per month online.
And the amazing part is, it took him less than 4 months to each build a profitable and
sustainable web business -- from the ground up -- once they applied this 'Total
Solution'.
In Mike's own words...
'I fell for (and bought) all of the tools out there. I maxed out my credit cards.'
Then something changed.... something 'clicked'... what was it, you ask?
In Jaime's own words...
"I never imagined being a part of something that could so massively change my life."
What is Jaime referring to here?
You see, besides their amazing success, Mike and Jaime have something else in common.
More of a "secret weapon", you could say. Within a couple of days (for a limited time), you will also get access to this same "Total Solution" and secret weapon.
If you already have a hard drive full of software, scripts and ebooks that you never use (or never wish you had bought)... this is a refreshing change.
I will give you all the details on Thursday, April 26th before 12 noon.
Be sure and watch here, ok?
In the meantime, you can read more about Mike, Jaime... listen to their Podcasts and also watch videos about those cool web tips I've been sending you to.
Hit this link right now for instant access to the PortalFeeder blog.

A couple of days ago, I promised to keep you informed on the tips and info that a trio of top marketers are putting out to draw attention to the upcoming relaunch of their outstanding business-building tool, PortalFeeder.
I pointed out how you can pick up some great tips from the free content top marketers give out before their launches and how PortalFeeder's relaunch was giving out some especially worthwhile tips.
They've put out two more posts since I last updated you. The most recent one tells a story that we'd all like to see ourselves as the hero of. A fellow PortalFeeder member tells of how she went from broke, homeless, and having 30 days to turn things around to making $10,000 a month.
Pretty amazing stuff!
The other post gives a great how-to on avoiding duplicate content penalties from the search engines that you might not even know you were receiving.
Like I said before, grab this free content and feel free to sign up for the tips they promise to provide in their newsletter.
Click here to go to the PortalFeeder blog.
Jeff
P.S. Incidentally, you'll find the posts right below their signup form. I'm not thrilled with the way the signup form dominates the page, but you can scroll down and get some great content.
