So What's With All this Law of Attraction Nonsense?
Ophrah's gaa-gaa over it. You can barely change the channel or turn the page in a popular magazine without running into it. So what's all the fuss and how does this apply to business?
Now, I'll say flat out that I don't buy into all the "vibrational harmonics of the universe" gobbledygook about how "the universe stands ready to fill your order for whatever you truly want."
But I find some interesting things to think about concerning the so-called Law of Attraction.
Is there something to the claim that you attract pain and hardship into your life by thinking negative thoughts? I'm skeptical about the idea that we somehow reorder the universe to conform to our thoughts.
But I have numerous examples in my life where my negativity about a relationship or a job led me to make stupid decisions based on my fear of losing them. Invariably in those situations, I acted defensively, alienated people with my defensiveness, and, as a result of my defensiveness spiralling into ever poorer decision making, eventually lost what I was fearful of losing.
Is there something to the claim that you attract the things you want into your life by visualizing them? I scoff at the idea that our thoughts magically bring things into our lifes just by thinking about them. But look at the example of a four-year-old around Christmas.
Have you ever seen a four-year-old who has gotten it into his head that life simply will not be complete unless he receives whatever the "hot" toy is that Christmas. He doesn't stop talking about it. Maybe he even clears a special place in his room to prepare to receive it. EVERYBODY who has any contact with him knows exactly what he wants.
And, unless the object of his desire is simply too outrageous for his parents to obtain, chances are he'll find it under the tree on Christmas morning.
The Law of Attraction at work, right? But did his THOUGHTS really attract this item into his life? Not really.
If he had just hunkered down and focused hard on his desire, no one would have known what he wanted and he wouldn't have gotten it. What "attracted" this item into his life was his single-minded focus showing through in his ACTIONS.
I've never "attracted" anything into my life just by thinking about it. In every situation where something good happened to me, it was because I was taking action in the direction I wanted to go.
Many times something good has happened from me being in the right place at the right time. But in every one of those times, I was in that right place at the right time because I had taken action to put myself there.
I don't believe you get any attraction unless you spell it attrACTION.
Jeff
P.S. About the only source I give any credence to when it comes to the Law of Attraction is Mike Kemski's BANABU. Yeah, he touches a little on all that vibrational stuff that LOA people like to talk about. But when you get down to it, BANABU focuses firmly on taking action to obtain the kind of life you want.
If you're ready to get the most out of your life and you're ready to take ACTION to obtain it, check out Mike's BANABU. He's one of the most down-to-earth people I know when it comes to approaching personal growth.
