The Importance of Planning Things Out
One of the most celebrated Internet marketers of all time is John Reese. Did you know that in his war room, the room he conducts business from, he has no computers?

Nope. None at all. So how does he conduct business from this room?

He has all four walls covered with white boards. Every project he works on, he takes in there and charts out on the walls every detail of what he needs to do to make that project succeed.

He doesn't wing it. He doesn't jump on an idea and follow it blindly where it leads. He plans every step of the way to make sure it will work before he ever takes it into the cyberworld.

John Reese was the first marketer ever to sell $1,000,000 of a product in a single day. He knows what he's doing. And he does business with every detail thought through. Think he's on to something?

A Couple of Last Chances
A couple of worthwhile business tools are going bye-bye tomorrow and I just thought I'd let you know before they went away. Both are the results of Internet marketing giants who are retiring from the biz, each in their own way.

Michael Campbell's "Clickin' It Rich" and "Revenge of the Mini-Nets"
Michael Campbell wrote some of the first great guides to affiliate marketing. Clickin' It Rich is a classic. But Michael plans to retire it at the end of August. Why? Isn't it any good anymore?

Actually, he just updated it a few months ago. It just dawned on him recently that he was tired of spending time keeping it updated and dealing with support questions.

He makes enough money off of his network of affiliate marketing sites that he realized he could easily retire all his ebooks and put that support time into the marketing experiments that he loves.

So he's retiring his ebooks and retreating into simply finding more ways to build his large affiliate network.

"Revenge of the Mini-Nets" isn't as much of a loss as Clickin' It Rich. "Revenge" is a good ebook on how to use your sites' linking power to focus the search engines' attention on the pages you most want them to rank highly.

But losing "Clickin' It Rich" is a real loss to any affiliate marketer who hasn't read it. Not only does it take you step by step through the process of setting up a successful affiliate business, but it also gives valuable tips that I've seen nowhere else on finding the hottest niches and products to target.

Like I say, it's a classic and I'm glad I got it before he retired it. If you do affiliate marketing and don't have it. I urge you to get Clickin' It Rich while you can.

Mark Joyner's XTreme Business Makeover
Mark Joyner, if you haven't heard of him, is one of the pioneers of Internet marketing. He's had multiple million-dollar businesses of his own and has coached dozens of other million-dollar business owners to success.

He drew back from Internet marketing about a year ago to pursue other interests. But some of the people he has coached got him to put together one last Internet marketing training tool.

His XTreme Business Makeover has nearly sold out in the week or so it's been on the market. There are less than 100 left and if they aren't sold out by the end of August, they're cutting them off anyway.

The course includes 10 hours of DVDs in which Mark does a complete makeover on a business that is already making millions of dollars. That's right: the business is already making MILLIONS OF DOLLARS and Mark Joyner finds 10 HOURS WORTH of things they can do to improve it.

Tapping into this kind of business know-how isn't available often. Is it cheap? No. But they guarantee that they will give you $10,000 two months from now if you buy it, make an honest effort to apply its principles, and still haven't tripled your revenues with these insights in that amount of time.

That's not a guarantee to take lightly. Check Mark Joyner's Xtreme Business Makeover out while it's still available.

Happy Birthday to Becca
It's been a while since I've gone all family-like on you, so excuse me if I give some kudos to by daughter Becca. She turns 23 today. She's an example that a lot of new business owners could learn from.

You might say she leads a charmed life. But, in reality, it's only because she's made it that way. Her high energy and genuine appreciation of others attracts people like crazy. When she worked in Burger King during high school, she was five to ten minutes late to work EVERY day.

Yet instead of firing her for her characteristic lateness, her bosses loved her for the enthusiasm and initiative she showed the full time she was there. Eventually, they actually started to accept her tardiness. One of them said to her, "I'm not worried when you show up late. I know you'll be there soon. And I know you'll do more work than most of the people who showed up on time."

For college, she choose a nearly all-male military college whose good-ole-boy system subtly sought to belittle women students into quitting. Although any of the men who saw her petite stature immediately wrote her off as not being up to the rigorous training required there, she forced them to respect her by always placing AHEAD of most of the guys in the physical training tests.

She couldn't match them physically in sheer strength. So she worked on speed and quickness and endurance to even things out—and even surpass them.

She's now an officer in the Air Force and has had plenty of other noteworthy accomplishments, but my point is this. Success is not about luck; it's about making your own luck.

When you look at a lot of the challenges she's faced and a lot of the mistakes she's made, you'd have to say she had no chance for success. Yet she pulled it off because each time she hit an obstacle, she found a way around it.

Success requires more than just wishful thinking. It requires more than some touchy-feely mumbo-jumbo about thinking positive thoughts and waiting for the universe to reward you. Success comes from a conscious effort to honestly assess where you're at and to find a way to make things that aren't working for you work.

May we all learn that way of approaching our businesses. Happy birthday, Becca!

Is This Faulty Mindset Crippling Your Online Business?
Do you know what pickpockets think as they go about their business? They think, "The people out there are carrying my money. It belongs to me. I'm supposed to have it. My job is to collect from them what is rightfully mine."

Kind of warped. isn't it? But it's very similar to the mindset many new business owners use.

The words we use aren't quite as blatant, but they're frighteningly similar: "People out there have money that I want. I'm supposed to have it. I have a business, after all. Businesses are supposed to get money from people. What do I need to do to get those people to give me my money?"

So where does a mindset like that lead? Those whose inclinations are a little shaky to begin with eventually gravitate toward the dark side. They look for ways they can "beat" others and get as much money as possible while giving as little as they can in return.

Others who pride themselves in their honesty set up their business online and wait. And wait. And wait for the money they're "supposed" to receive.

Sadly, though, online business owners who take that approach have more in common with the pickpocket's mentality than they think.

In both cases, the focus is squarely on GETTING OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. Oh, those who follow the "rules" for making lots of money online may not consciously try to cheat anyone. But what are they doing to BENEFIT anyone?

There's more to making money online than simply setting up an online business. Hey, you think you'd make money setting up a store that sells heavy winter parkas in the middle of the Mohave desert?

No. Why not? Because you're not serving the needs of the people there. They're looking for cold drinks, suntan lotion and other hot weather needs. Satisfy those needs and you'll likely make some money. Present them with something that doesn't and you won't.

It's the same thing online. Find solutions to the problems that a specific group of people face. Show them lots of things that do nothing to solve those needs and you'll earn nothing. Find solutions for those needs and they won't think twice about parting with their money to them.

There's a saying that pretty well sums up my business philosopy: "What can I do to enrich others in such a way that they will gladly and willingly reimburse me for my efforts?"

See the difference between that question and the one most beginning business owners ask: "What do I have to do to get people to give me their money?" The second question is totally one sided. It focuses all on getting. The other question focuses on giving to others in ways that lead naturally to receiving in return.

It's that shift in mindset that can make all the difference in the world between a business that underperforms and one that soars.

Free Sales Page Graphics
Looking for sales page graphics, such as order buttons, opt-in signup boxes and the like? I just learned that Brent Turner, the graphics designer that many of the top marketers turn to for their graphics needs, has made a collection of buttons and other sales page graphics available for free.

You give him your email address and you get free access to these graphics. And I wouldn't worry about getting emailed to death by him. So far I've gotten only the signup confirmation. And other marketers I know who have signed up for this have reported similar respect from him.

These are graphics that have been specifically optimized to improve sales. Why is he offering this for free? He wants to get the attention of new marketers who could turn to him for custom graphics in the future.

Incidentally, another graphics artist I use regularly is my son, Jon Baas. He's good, and he's inexpensive. So if you're looking for custom graphics, check him out, too.

But check out Brent Turner's free sales page graphics while he's still offering them.
